JUKEBOX - Best of HIGH FIVE RECORDS
Sadly the run of HIGH FIVE parties come to end but they do so in superoverloadwildwater style!
On Saturday night, 15 of the DJs who've all had a hand in the previous parties (look, look, see what I did there...?) squeeze into about 7 1/2 hours of playing time giving each one a 30 minute slot to jam whatever HIGH FIVE moment they want.
Sad to see it go but have no doubt Ben & Ri will come up with some or other amazing concept soon!
I've had the pleasure and priviledge of playing WIPEOUT, KICK OUT THE JAMS, SEPTEMBER and LOVE WILL TEAR US APART (all reported in previous posts)
I recorded the WIPEOUT mix on the night. Check it out below. WIPEOUT MIXHere is the story as told on Facebook:Facebook eventWith Disc Jockeys from every Hi-5 from the last year and a bit, get ready for half hour power pop sets from THE HIGH 15! The eclectic will be hectic! The. Best. Of:

SASSQUATCH Over the course of a year, High Five Records threw 12 parties, each one themed to a very different sub-genre of the wide wide world of rock & roll. Each party was presented as an imaginary compilation, the "tracklisting" of which, was the 5 DJs playing that night. Over the course of each night, 7 and a half hours of dancing were divided up by that month's "High Five". On Saturday the 17th we'll be hosting "Jukebox - The Best of High Five Records!" a wrap-up event to celebrate the end of the series! Sonically, the night will span the full extent of all the genre's explored over all Hi5's 12 installments, from swing to surf, proto-punk to post-punk, 50ies soul to 80ies new wave to 90ies indie. The real surprise is, breaking away from our formula of 5 DJs in 7 and a half hours, we won't have a "High Five" , but rather a "High Fifteen"!!! Yes, we are being as ambitious and crazy that we think we can squeeze 15 DJs into 1 lineup and what's more we think it's gonna work out pretty damn well! If you're wondering about the maths, we have 7 and a half hours from 8:30PM - 4AM, a total of 450 minutes. Divided by our 15 DJs, it leaves each DJ with a power set of 30 minutes. Whether they try fit 20 doo wop hits into that time, or would rather just play two epic disco jams for the whole set, that's totally up to them. Seeing what people do with a micro-set like this and the madness of giving the dancefloor a new selector every 30 minutes, we think this is gonna make for one of the most fun, crazy nights-out that Joburg has seen in ages! Release Date: Saturday, March 17 Expected retail price: R30 Available only at Kitchener’s R.O.A.R.

March 10 party alert
March is upon us and it's a few days before our party. The fact that it's already March is decidedly fucked...but there you go.
Last week, Jo from Past Experiences wrote a piece on their blog about a weekend in Braamfontein that included some kindwords about our party. We met Jo late last year at one of our nights where they were requesting Jackson5 (which we played) and
Barbra Streisand (which we didn't). Because my hearing is clinically shot, they kindly wrote their requests on their business cards. Coincidentally, I discovered that I have their site as a recommended link on another of my blogs used for research on Johannesburg's history
for a script I'm working on (http://johannesburgscript.posterous.com) They conduct some well informed tours of the city and are worth checking out. Click here for the Past Experiences piece
