We're back on the 10th of Feb after a good two month break and just in time for a bit of a valentines bash.
Look out for links for two new mixes IN LOVE and NOT IN LOVE in true REFORM! style.
In the meantime, I've been busy with some research on another comic script I've started. This one is based in Johannesburg in 1910-12
and using old pictures from various books on old Joburg I though it would be cool to see how many of those old landmarks I could find.
Look out for the JOHANNESBURG blog as part this Posterous profile for the rest. I'll be posting sporadically over the coming months.
Here is what I think could be the REFORM! venue "Kitchener's Carvery - Milner Park Hotel' from early 1900 with one from a few days ago.
On closer inspection, It is unlikely that it is, but it's a romantic thought nonetheless.
The roof is slightly different and the balcony has more sections on the old picture. It's a pretty typical building form that era and there were many of them on various corners throughout JHB and Braamfontein.
The hotel was originally built in 1901-1902 and is one the few original buildings left in Braamfontein (apart from the old fort, the Nunnery, Braamfontein cemetary, the old Park Station shell and remaining fever clinic buildings, I can't think of anything else) It is also officially the second oldest bar in JHB.
I'd also like to thank Andrew the DJ (and the owner of the building - Adam Levy) for making it available for DJs like us and and others to have cool and experimental parties at little or no risk. There is a serious shortage of small-medium venues with open-minded people running them. Lets hope Kitcheners remains!
